Memories of our trip around the world in 2014, Part 6

Big Island, Hawaii in September 2014

I’m still recovering from my back injury. I was so lucky!!! For a moment I didn’t know if I was ever gonna walk again. So now, for the first time in my life, I’m afraid of the water…Hope I’ll get over it soon.

We moved. We live in the jungle now, in the village of Holualoa, a litter higher up the hill (amazing view over the ocean). It’s cooler up here and the mosquitos are horrible.
I pick coffee on a coffee farm and get the rooms ready for the b&b guests of the “Lilikoi Inn”. I get up at 6 and go coffee picking, listening to audiobooks or singing like abirdd, I love it!! Liel has turned into a very helpful worker around here too, collecting lilikois and avocados,…
The first day we arrived we saw this amazing angel in the sky, the sunset was so breathtakingand , I took it as a nice welcome to the new place.

Our hosts are Jewish, and it’s funny how they bring up a lot of memories from Israel in me. Interesting to get in touch with my roots here. We’d start the day with a “boker tov” and end it with a “laila tov”, realizing that I recall a lot more Hebrew words than I thought. The kitchen looks a lot like one in a Kibbutz, the radio is on all day, and our boss is a very warm and friendly Israeli.

It has been made very clear that we are second class, we do not get to eat with the guests on the beautiful lanai and there are a lot of rules to get used to…( It makes it a bit difficult to get in touch with the guests, which is a shame, coz a lot of very interesting people come here.) We’re practicing not to take anything personally around here and just observing the stories, our minds keep making up, it’s a very good exercise to do it their way even if we don’t agree with a few things…
